Separating Reflection Functions for Linear Radiosity
نویسنده
چکیده
Classic radiosity assumes diffuse reflectors in order to consider only pair-wise exchanges of light between elements. It has been previously shown that one can use the same system of equations with separable bi-directional reflection distribution functions (BRDFs), that is BRDFs that can be put in the form of a product of two functions, one of the incident direction and one of the reflected direction. We show here that this can be easily extended to BRDFs that can be approximated by sums of such terms. The classic technique of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) can be used to compute those terms given an analytical or experimental BRDF. We use the example of the traditional Phong model for specularlike reflection to extract a separable model, and show the results in term of closeness to ordinary Phong shading. We also show an example with experimental BRDF data. Further work will indicate whether the quality of linear radiosity images will be improved by this modification.

Wavelet Radiosity: Wavelet Methods for Integral Equations
In this chapter we will explain how wavelets can be used to solve integral equations. The example we use is an important integral equation in graphics, the radiosity equation. The radiosity equation governs the transport of light between surfaces under the assumption that all reflection occurs isotropically. The resulting integral equation is linear and can be analyzed as a linear operator. Sin...
متن کاملFace Cluster Radiosity
An algorithm for simulating diffuse interreflection in complex three dimensional scenes is described. It combines techniques from hierarchical radiosity and multiresolution modelling. A new face clustering technique for automatically partitioning polygonal models is used. The face clusters produced group adjacent triangles with similar normal vectors. They are used during radiosity solution to ...
متن کاملWavelet Radiosity on Arbitrary Planar Surfaces
Wavelet radiosity is, by its nature, restricted to parallelograms or triangles. This paper presents an innovative technique enabling wavelet radiosity computations on planar surfaces of arbitrary shape, including concave contours or contours with holes. This technique replaces the need for triangulating such complicated shapes, greatly reducing the complexity of the wavelet radiosity algorithm ...
